Best Compas – Skah Shah #1, 1979

,

🇭🇹 🎺 🔥 🎶 ⚡ Born from a split of the Shleu-Shleu during their tour in the United States, Skah Shah #1 quickly became one of the leading groups of Haitian compas, defining the second half of the 1970s with numerous hits. This album, Best Compas, their seventh, released in 1979 by Marc Records, was no exception. Georges Loubert Chancy, Arsène Appollon, and their collaborators set the stage ablaze with tracks filled with dazzling brass, blending Latin influences (Rassemble) with disco flavors (Nous Deux) and pure compas. The 1980s confirmed the orchestra’s success, but the following decade saw the emergence of internal dissensions. The group eventually disbanded, though various revivals under different names kept their legacy alive. Finally, in the early 2000s, Skah Shah reunited, much to the delight of their fans.
