Since the start of his career some thirty years ago, Gaël Horellou has been exploring the frontiers of jazz, be it electro, progressive rock, drum’n bass, serial music or whatever. All with one thing in common: groove. So it’s hardly surprising that he plunged into the maloya tradition during a residency in Réunion in 2015. Since then, his group ‘Identité’ has been playing maloya jazz that’s easy to get into a trance with the musicians who accompany him. Many of them come from the island, where they are already ardent defenders of the tradition: Vincent Philéas, Emmanuel Félicité, Jérôme Calciné (percussion/vocals) and Nicolas Beaulieu (guitar). Florent Gac completes the picture on organ, bringing a harmonic and groovy touch to this fusion immersed in rhythm. The album « Tous les peuples« , recorded during this residency, perfectly captures the energy that the group exudes on stage. « Identité » regularly tours France. So don’t miss them when they come to town!
