From highlife to merengue, with a touch of cha-cha and Yoruba rhythms. The country’s best orchestras are featured on this Stars of Ghana compilation, released in 1980 on the local Blackspot label. It includes the first single by the Melody Aces, released in 1962, as well as the first tracks by the Royal Brothers Band, released on a single 10″ in 1963. The selection extends to the 70s with Akwaboah’s Band and Yamoah’s Band, while The Ramblers Dance Band close the set with two tracks featured on their own best of, released in 1968.
