Beneath his seemingly light-hearted exterior, Donny Elwood points out the shortcomings of African society, particularly in his native Cameroon, in his songs, with humour and provocation. For Négro & Beau, his first album released in 1996, he relies on the arrangements and production of guitarist Jay-Lou Ava, and offers engaging African folk. In the same vein, Henri Dikongué’s albums, arranged by Etienne Mbappé, are also worth a listen.
