🎶🇲🇶🕺🎤🎹🎵 In 1977, Malavoi was the first album released by the orchestra of the same name… under its own name. Martinique’s flagship orchestra was already well known, having formed in 1969 and released other albums and singles under similar names (Les Malavoi’s, la Formation Malavoi…). The Foyalais were already a huge success when this album came out, with Ralph Thamar’s voice a big hit. But the album, with its militant Afro cover, its Latin compas arrangements and its merengues, was also the last of the group’s first period. This was followed by a three-year « absence » before the band returned, this time under the leadership of Paulo Rosine, with a repertoire mainly made up of original compositions. But the band’s big names were already present, including Denis Dantin, Jean-Marc Albicy, Christian de Negri, Paulo Rosine, and even DĂ©dĂ© St-Prix.
