🎶🌴🥁💃🎷 As promised, back to the essential modern gwoka retrospective concocted by the Time Capsule (Cédric Lassonde, London) and Séance Centre (Brandon Hocura, Montreal) labels. This double LP was released at the beginning of the year and brings back to light some virtually historic tracks that are now impossible to find. Lèspri Ka / New Directions in Gwoka features compositions by Gui Konket, Michel Laurent, Gaoulé Mizik, Kalindi Ka, Selekta Ka and Horizon, among others, on a journey through gwoka tradition, fusion, jazz, African influences and even a touch of electro!
Among the recent releases from the two labels – and we’ve already talked about them here – I strongly suggest the compilation devoted to Gratien Midonnet by Time Capsule, and the reissue of the key tracks by Robert Oumaou and Gwakasonné, by Séance Centre.
