🌊🏝️🎶🔥🙏 From the late 70’s to the mid 80’s, the very Parisian reggae label Jah Live released some must-have albums in France. At the initiative of its founder José Jourdain, it released the French edition of Hearts of the Congos, for example, but also other Jamaican or Anglo-Jamaican artists such as Scattarock, King Sounds, etc. As is often the case, Jah Live has also released a number of excellent in-house compilations. So at first glance, the cover of this « Perle noire des Caraïbes » is more reminiscent of a collection of voodoo ethno-musical inspiration, released by Chant Du Monde (which incidentally is usually pretty fantastic too, that’s not the point). And religion it is, but only Rastafari, with nine tracks between roots reggae and dub by the crème de la crème of today’s musicians, a few instrumentals, and hits including Fisherman by the Congos, and tracks by Freddie McKay, Winston Jarrett and Brimstone. A compilation that may not look like much, but it’s well worth the diversions!
