Dimension Créole Salsa – Moïse Crespy ‘Beco’, 1979

,

🇬🇵 🎹 🥁 🎺 🌌 Moïse Crespy « Beco » was undoubtedly one of the champions of Guadeloupean salsa. With his band Dimension Créole, he produced several albums, including Salsa, released in 1979. For this album, he entrusted Roland Louis with the arrangements and artistic direction. The pianist brought in some of his Zouker’s (Serge Marne, Albert Mucret, Philippe Renault) as well as one of Guadeloupe’s Latin percussion specialists, Alain Delos. On brass, we find Louis Toesca, a distinguished member of Magma. Roland Louis also brought out the synthesizers (of the time) for a rather original approach to the son montuno, in a mix of brass, congas and digital keyboards that were almost spatial and downright retro-futuristic! Once the surprise has passed – and Roland returns to the piano on most of the tracks – Moïse Crespy brings his experience to bear and salsa fully reasserts itself on these six tracks, which blend Creole and Spanish with an infallible groove. Moïse Crespy passed away in early 2024 in Guadeloupe.
