🇬🇵 🎶 🔥 💃 🎹 Dicktam, the Guadeloupean producer and singer (under the pseudonym Dicktam), was a key figure in zouk from the late 1980s to the early 2000s. His 1989 self-titled album, his fifth release, features Franck Curier as artistic director, Christian Yéyé on keyboards, and Frédéric Caracas on bass—a lineup that delivers. The first side plays with tempo in a distinctly Kassav-esque spirit, even throwing in a zouk love track, Ou Ja Esayé, as a closing note. But Side B offers no respite: it’s all-out acceleration, with drums and bass driving tracks like Nou Inmey and C’ Blablabla, before ending on the cloying, forgettable slow jam J’ai Rêvé. This is Saturday-night zouk—pure energy. Come on, zouk!
