🎤🇨🇲🎶📀🌟 Geo W. Masso has produced very few albums in his career. The Cameroonian singer was a key figure in the makossa movement of the 80s. His biggest hit was Lolita, released in 1989 and subtitled « The Greatest Come-Back ». Starting with a comeback is rather strange, even if it is true that eight years earlier, Geo Masso had already made a name for himself with a single, A Muto / Bosinga. But let’s get back to Lolita, which accompanied my arrival in Cameroon in the late 80s. Surrounded by some of the best (Toto Guillaume, Aladji Touré, Jack Djehim, Ernest Nvouama and Guy Bilong), Geo Masso recorded five makossas that were all hits. Lolita, Longue Lam, O Sidimbea Mba: a frenetic rhythm, rich arrangements full of brass and synth, for a very (well) produced and clearly irresistible result on the track, of the quality of what Kassav’ offers around zouk on the other side of the Atlantic. Ndolo Nye Nde Mba breathes nicely in the middle of the B-side, before Na Si Bié’s feverish finale brings the whole thing to a close. Geo W. Masso went on to produce other albums until the early 2000s, but it is Lolita that is still remembered today. The singer died in Doula in 2018.
