Koumbit – Jean-Paul Pognon, 1994

,

Come on, zouk! For his 1994 album Koumbit, Jean-Paul Pognon called on a different composer for each track – who also took part in the recording. The result is a rich and varied album of the very best zouk in all its forms, embellished by the influences of each composer, sometimes jazz, sometimes funk, sometimes Latin. Special guests include Serge Ponsar, Jean-Philippe Marthély, Thierry Vaton, Yves Ndjock, Thierry Fanfant, Tony Chasseur and Rodrigue Marcel. In a very partial – but assumed – way, a soft spot for Klash, by and with Dominique Bérose. Of course! Jean-Paul Pognon, who we’ve of course heard with La Perfecta, Kassav’, Simon Jurad and Sakiyo, has produced an album that has logically become much sought-after.
