Originally from Capesterre Belle-Eau, it is mainly in French Guiana that pianist Dominique Leblanc has made his career. He set up his Jazz Kréyol Trio in 2004, with Nicolas Noyon (b) and Hervé Laval (dms). The former is a pupil of Eric Vinceno, among others. The latter needs no introduction, drummer both under his own name (l’Audition Créole) and for others (Rico Toto, Kassav’…). Obsessions is the trio’s first album, released in 2006. Dominique Leblanc offers rich Creole jazz, and the album ends in apotheosis with Domaine des Etoiles, thirteen minutes of inspired gwoka jazz. The trio’s third album, Nos Richesses, was released three years later.
