Yesterday was the birthday of pianist Normand Deveault, who left us three years ago already. The Canadian had moved to Guadeloupe in 1989, just after Hugo. A pianist with a wide range of influences and cultures, he played – among others – with Tropic Fusion, the Happy Lewis quintet and, of course, the Guanada trio, formed with Jocelyn Ménard and Charlie Chomereau-Lamotte. He also gave regular classical concerts. In 2001, he recorded his solo album « Porky s’envole » in Montreal, on which his love of Latin jazz, bop standards, ragtime and beguine is reflected in a mix of his own compositions and covers.
