Couleur Caraïbes, released by Debs label in 1992, is the one and only record by the group Tropic Fusion. This Creole jazz group was set up in Guadeloupe on the initiative of saxophonist Édouard Benoit, with guitarist Jocelyn Aucagos. It features Christian Fanfant (dms), Gaby Moustache (perc) and Patrice Hugues (b). The piano is played by Canadian Normand Deveault, and violinist Bruno Jofa completes the ensemble. The passing of the group’s leader in 1997 put an unfortunate end to the adventure, although a few tribute concerts were held afterwards. The album offers warm, colourful jazz, often with Latin influences, rooted in the traditional rhythms of Guadeloupe.
