Claude Vamur has ultimately released few albums under his own name. We have already presented here Lévé Mwen, the first, in 1987. But between Kassav’ (from 82) and his many collaborations (Robert Mavounzy, the Rapaces or the Vikings in Guadeloupe, then Manu Dibango, Eddy Louiss, Miriam Makeba or Baden Powell, and many others, both in Cameroon and the West Indies), Kolo finally had little time for himself. So, in 2007, this Kolo Ka is as rare as it is eagerly awaited. The drummer delves into jazz, and the gwoka that underpins most of the tracks on the album. Here’s what he had to say about it at the time of its release: « I travel around the whole planet and find in mother earth the motivation for a career guided by this passion. I’ve come to realize just how much percussion punctuates the existential rhythm of the different peoples in the countries I’ve visited. There’s an old saying that travel shapes youth. Kolo Ka is the fruit of these journeys. » The musicians include Thierry Vaton, Harry Gofin, Franck Curier, Guy N’sangue, Eric Löhrer, Mario Masse… Let yourself be carried away!
