Pata Pata – Miriam Makeba, 1967

🎤🎶🇿🇦🌍🕊️ Although the album Pata Pata was released in 1967, it was ten years earlier that Miriam Makeba composed the track that would make her known the world over. Forced into exile for over thirty years, she had left South Africa in 1959. In the United States, she was supported by Harry Belafonte, and occasionally sang some delicious calypsos. However, it was her anti-apartheid voice and her support for the preservation of Zulu culture that would be her life’s struggle, alongside Hugh Masekela, for example. « Mama Africa » returned to South Africa in 1990, when Nelson Mandela came to power, before passing away in 2008.
