Isidore York, better known as Mighty Dow – or Dow for short – has been making Sint Maarten dance for forty years. In the 80s, his success was confirmed when the song For King was named the best carnival song of 1982. In 1988 his landmark album of soca, rumba, zouk and calypso (the delicious Not Before) was released. Movin’ On doesn’t let the listener rest, with tracks like Bula, Suke and St Maarten Style. It’s clearly a party, as the cover illustrates, with York parading on the platform of a sound truck. Dow is still active today and continues to bring soca and calypso to life and pass it on to the younger generation.
