The history of Boston’s Volo Volo is anything but a long, quiet river. Since it was founded in 1969 – under the name Haiti Combo – the successful group has gone through so many personnel changes that when this Mèt Cafou was released in 1985, the musicians of the time had little in common with the founders. The orchestra had seen it all, with new line-ups, disbandments, departures and revamps, but success never abandoned them. Volo Volo toured the Caribbean and Europe, and remains one of Haiti’s leading compas bands.
