Mélodies Roses is definitely one of Dina Bell‘s best-selling albums. The Douala native, discovered in the late 70s with his single Yoma Yoma, is one of the pillars of makossa, and the constellation of talents on this 1988 album speaks volumes about his reputation. Initially influenced by the late Eboa Lottin, he was in turn a source of inspiration for the next generation, including Guy Bilong, the twins Epée and Koum, and others. Mélodies Roses featured contributions from Toto Guillaume, Moustique Ambassa, Hilaire Penda, Aladji Touré, Rigo Star, the Hatot / Josseran / Bolognesi star brass section, backing vocals from Grace Decca, Ndedi Dibango and many more. And make no mistake about it, despite its title, which could give rise to doubts that it’s a little mawkish, it’s nothing of the sort – quite the contrary. Dancefloor direct!
