Map Mandé Courage – Scorpio Universel, 1979

,

In 1977, Pat Martino created Scorpio Universel to challenge the D.P. Express of his former colleagues. Scorpio released their first three albums on Macaya, followed by the hit of the summer of ’79, Map Mandé Courage, released on Mini Records as a Big Single. A runaway success for the title track, « guaranteed to make you dance », as the sleeve proclaims, and released in translucent blue! Scorpio puts the funk in the compas, and even quotes Freak Out as a tribute to Chic. And there’s no resting on the B-side with Vi’N Pran Piyay‘s eleven minutes of carnival trance. The dance floor is yours!
