🇩🇲 🎸 🎤 🎶 🌟 While the Debs label proudly declared in 1974 that this single was the Gramacks’ first record, the band had in fact already been active for several years. Founded in the early 1970s in Saint-Joseph, Dominica, their name derives from the Dominica Grammar School attended by its members. Early success came swiftly, and En Quimber On Soucougnan, featured on this debut release, instantly became a Caribbean hit. The Gramacks’ reinvented calypso, led by Jeff Joseph, proved irresistibly appealing, and Henri Debs once again demonstrated his keen ear. Subsequent albums followed in quick succession, including the excellent La Vie Disco (1976), up to their final release, Roots Caribbean Rock, in 1985.
