We’re a little late in wishing Alain Jean-Marie, a cornerstone of Caribbean jazz and jazz in general, a happy birthday. That was on 29 October. On the jazz side, Alain Jean-Marie has given us some superb solo albums, but I have a soft spot for a real gem from 1988 recorded as a duo. With the late Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, he brings us Latin Alley, featuring standards and personal compositions interpreted with rare finesse. On the B side, the Caribbean intrudes on this On Ti Berceuse and on Haiti, in response to the Brazil proposed by NHOP with Swingin’ The Samba.
