Gramacks – 1975

🇩🇲🎸🔥🥁🎶 Formed in 1970 in Dominica, the Gramacks didn’t release their first albums until 1974. Three albums in one go to make up for lost time. The following year, this self-titled album continued the group’s upward trajectory, with success now confirmed. It’s an explosive cocktail of rhythm-lypso and reggae, with plenty of early synth distortion sandwiched between organ, trumpet and, of course, guitar riffs. The Gramacks set everything they touch on fire, led by Jeff Joseph and Hippomène Léauva. Special mention must go to Mama Dit’s mid-tempo reggae, sandwiched between two supercharged rhythms (Pas Danser En Bas Coco Sec, Mangez La Ka Bouillie) and addictive calypsos (Poussez Ba Moin).
