GHANA O.K.! (Ghana Beyeyie) – Katakumbey, 1984

🎺🌍🎸🌴🎶 Ekow « Redding » hails from Ashanti country in Ghana, and owes his pseudonym to his admiration for Otis of the same name in the 1960s. He initially took up the flute and saxophone. Ekow travelled to Liberia – where he played with Paramount 8 – then to Germany, before returning to Ghana where, alongside music, he became involved in politics. In the meantime, Ekow had taken up the guitar. He set up Katakumbey and produced his first two albums. The political gamble was risky, and it was not long before he had to go into exile, this time to England. Returning to Ghana in the early 80s, he reformed his group and produced Ghana O.K.! in 1984, where highlife blends with the sounds of Western pop.
