Behind Biguine High Society is the Batucada orchestra led by Solon Gonçalves, the Martinican by adoption. The Brazilian composer and trumpeter performed two beguines here in 1963, including a version of Francisco’s Famme Matinique Dou. A few years later, in 1969, he published his landmark album, En Direct Des Antilles, with the essential Nataly, composed with Henri Guédon.
