🇯🇲 🎧 🎤 🎛️ 🌿 Lester Randall Bullock began his career as a DJ in Jamaican sound systems in the early 1970s. It was Lee « Scratch » Perry who suggested he change his name to Dillinger for greater appeal. His first hit, Freshly, arrived in 1976, but it was Cocaine in my Brain, released in 1979, that brought him widespread fame. On this EP, Dillinger was backed by Peter Tosh’s orchestra, with the iconic duo Sly & Robbie on bass and drums. The track heavily samples Do It Any Way You Wanna by People’s Choice, released four years earlier on the Philly Sound label, PIR. Though Dillinger went on to produce numerous albums, he never replicated the success of Cocaine in my Brain, despite attempts like Marijuana in my Brain.
