Forty years all round for the pan-Caribbean Caribbean Experience, led by Jacky All Stars & Midnight Groovers and released in 1983. Quite a programme, to bring together some excellent musicians from Martinique, Dominica, Antigua, Guadeloupe and Trinidad. The zouk is edgy and often electro – thanks to the heyday of electronic drums – and the guitar oscillates between the West Indies and Africa. Roots are never far away, as evidenced by the ti-bwa that drives What Is This, What Is That? (Zeb’ La). The list includes Jean-Philippe Marthély, Nicol Bernard, Happy Lewis, Ronald Rubinel, Philip and Marcel Mark and Jean-Paul Pognon. Go Zouk!
