Ça Waké – Black Affairs, 1976

,

🎶🇩🇲🕺🎤🥁 Ça Waké, the debut album from the Dominican collective Black Affairs, is a smash hit. Led by Anthony Gussie, Black Affairs went straight to the top of the charts with Ça Moin Di Ou Fé, an irresistible cadence-lypso that Jeff Joseph covered later with Volt-Face under the title Ay Mama. On this first album of 1976 – there were to be three released that year – Black Affairs swept across the Caribbean, moving from cadence to reggae with the very swinging Be Careful In Life, and incorporating two tracks from spouge, the Barbadian rhythm that is conducive to releasing energy. After Black Affairs – which reappears from time to time at festivals – Anthony Gussie moved to Réunion and set up The Examples, with whom he also performs under the name Ras Dubba. If you hadn’t guessed, it’s reggae!
