🎶🌴💨💊🎷 With the huge success of Legalize it released two years earlier, Bush Doctor is, for Peter Tosh, the second consecration album, released in 1978 on the Rolling Stones label opened to him by Mick Jagger. The shooting star of reggae, who would be murdered ten years later in mysterious circumstances, got his start by founding the Wailers with Bob Marley in the 60s. Still with Marley, he went on to found the Tuff Gong label. On Bush Doctor, Tosh covers Don’t Look Back, a duet with Mick Jagger, and the track is another hit. Peter Tosh relies on reggae’s most famous rhythmic pairing, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare (who would accompany Gainsbourg and Manu Dibango on their respective Jamaican dives in later years). Keith Richards also features on two tracks, the album’s title track and Stand Firm. Above all, I can’t resist pointing out that it’s the far too underrated or at least misunderstood Luther François who operates on saxophone on the album. Yes! Let’s get back to it.
