🇨🇩 🎵 🌍 💃 ✨ Born in Bukavu, in eastern Congo, So Kalméry grew up largely in Zambia, where he took refuge as a child after the assassination of his father, a colleague of Patrice Lumumba. Music quickly became part of his life, and today he is the leading exponent of Brakka, a musical style that embraces African roots and modern pop. Brakka is as much music as it is dance, and its message is a veritable philosophy of life. In 1990, So Kalméry released his first album, surrounded by an impressive array of musicians from Africa, Europe and the West Indies, confirming his universal ambition (Etienne M’bappé, Roger Raspail, Emmanuel Bex, Lokua Kanza, Glenn Ferris, Paco Séry…). Mostly sung in Lingala, Brakka brings together Southern African harmonies, sophisticated arrangements, traditional rhythms and urban grooves in a unique and fundamentally danceable melting pot.
