Awana w’Afrika – Akendengue, 1983

,

Almost forty years ago, Akendengue released one of his best-known songs, Awana w’Afrika. This appeal to the children of Africa is part of the awakening of consciousness that Pierre Akendengue has sought to stimulate since the start of his career. The title track, with its catchy synth intro, is also particularly danceable, making it a big hit in Africa and beyond, and helping to spread his message. Akendengue composes all the tracks on the album, which oscillate between African folk and traditional rhythms, shared with the vocals of Sophie Mbourou and Marianne Ndjongue. The line-up includes a number of loyal fans, including Prosper Nkouri, Vincent Daune and Roger Raspail.
