Silhouettes/Thank You For Last Night – Cygnus, 1978

, ,

🇱🇨🎸🎤🎶🔊 At the end of the 70s, Saint-Lucian Lenny Deneb set up the reggae group Cygnus in London, where he had grown up, with his acolytes Tony Corbin, Leonard Cameron, Mervin Williams and Barba Walker. Cygnus was signed to Greensleeves and released a number of maxi singles, the first of which was a cover of the traditional Silhouettes, popularised since the 1950s by The Rays and Herman’s Hermits, and already used in reggae by Dennis Brown in 1972. Cygnus adds a dub touch with this 1978 version. On the B side, Thank You for Last Night is signed by Deneb, with a similar treatment. Cygnus continued to release singles until the early 80s, before breaking up without producing an album. The success of their singles nevertheless enabled them to tour Europe. Lenny Deneb went on to pursue a solo career, initially in the reggae vein, before returning to more rock influences, inspired by Bruce Springsteen and U2.
