Tasse Vermont Duclair is one of the little forgotten masters of makossa. The singer and guitarist, who died in 2020, enjoyed success during the time of three albums in the 80s, released confidentially on his own label, TVD Records. Tiopou Yamou is the second in the series, and has achieved the status of a mythical album that is virtually sold out today (but why is that?). The line-up was top-notch, featuring Jules Kamga, Michel Alibo, Sam Fan Thomas, Jean-Paul Mondo, Jean-Claude Naimro and Valéry Lobé. It was the heyday of makossa, and this one is no exception. As usual, we’ll avoid the syrupy slows at the end of each side, but for the rest, the makossa is edgy and particularly well-crafted, and the title track is clearly a dancefloor hit.
