đ¶đ€đžđ„đ„ 1975 saw the release of the debut album by Ikenga Super Stars, « Nigeria’s most beloved group of all time ». Contemporaries and close friends of Prince Nico Mbarga – who released his hit Sweet Mother the following year – they mixed highlife, Afro-funk and Zairean sounds on two 18-minute tracks, a festive trance that left no one indifferent, far from it! The group, which sings in typical Nigerian broken English, was originally formed by musicians from the Igbo ethnic group in the south-east of the country. The group lasted until 1987, and its personnel evolved, integrating other ethnic groups as well as musicians from Cameroon.
