The Massako orchestra, founded in 1978 by singer Mack-Joss – who died in 2018 – was a veritable Gabonese institution. In 1980, singer Amara Touré joined the group and would leave his mark on it right to the end. Today, Massako’s records have become museum pieces, and their prices often soar. The orchestra also received renewed attention this year when the excellent Analog Africa label reissued a compilation of some of the tracks from the early years, which are now virtually impossible to find. So, in 1985, Massako was still in « Super Forme » (super shape), as this album proves, and it hasn’t aged a day!
