In 1969, Alain Jean-Marie was twenty-five years old and coming to the end of his youthful Canadian period. And it was then that he recorded Piano Biguines, the first album under his own name, and an opus that would mark his work forever, the beginnings of the Biguines Réflexions published from the 90s onwards. In a quartet with Tony Faisans, Jobby Dandele and Serge Landre, he recorded his first glimpse of the marriage of beguine and jazz, covering songs by Al Lirvat and Pierre Louiss, as well as a few of his own compositions. The album was reissued in 1984 (these photos), then on CD in the early 90s. However, if you ask Alain, the perfectionist that he is will tell you that this is not, by far, his favourite album… Even if we, passionate listeners, may have a different opinion!
