It’s a strong comeback, a return to basics, a plunge into its own tradition, that Malavoi offers us with Masibol, released last December. Firstly because Ralph Thamar, who has returned to sing with the orchestra, is here recording his second album since his return, after Pep La which already dates back… to 2009! Secondly, because Masibol’s music brings out the best of what Malavoi has been able to produce and set as a benchmark for beguine jazz, with its Latin roots and its unique use of strings and choirs.
