🎤🕺🎸🎶🌍 In the cover photo, Zitany Neil, all smiles, pays tribute to the sape in a matching multi-piece suit to great effect. In 1988, the Congolese singer, based in Côte d’Ivoire, took African dancefloors by storm with what was to be the hit of his life, Marcory Gasoil. Seven breathtaking minutes, driven by the soukous references Lokassa Ya Mbongo, Awilo Longomba, and above all the breathtaking guitar of Dally Kimoko, who signs here one of his most memorable solos. The rest of the album is of the same ilk, starting with the electric opener Tantina, which announces the project’s infectious energy from the very first notes. Marcory, a working-class district of Abidjan, is celebrated here as a place of life and festivity, a crossroads of cultures where music, fashions and communities intermingle. This is only the second album by the Congolese, who has produced very little. In 1989, however, Zitany Neil took part in the Megamix Vol. 1 project, led by Lokassa Ya Mbongo and the Soukous Stars, confirming his status as a key figure on the Soukous scene.
