Forty years ago, Max Cilla recorded Volume 1 of his Flute des Mornes. The Martiniquan began by making his own flutes using the ancestral Indian method. Since then, he has become a conduit for the once-forgotten flute tradition on his island, and has shared the stage with the likes of Archie Shepp and Tito Puente. This record is now an iconic album, to be followed by a volume 2 in 1989. It features Claude Vamur on drums and Georges-Edouard Nouel on piano. Here, the top-quality reissue by Bongo Joe in 2017. As soon as the clubs reopen, rush to rue des Lombards, where Max Cilla is often heard and still plays regularly!
