In 1984, Bassa Tonye Jackson released Humanisme Africain, one of his hits, on the album of the same name, which looked to makossa, zouk, rumba and soukous, and didn’t disdain a little dip into the mbaya of the Kribi batanga! Recorded at Studio Johanna, the album features a number of well-known names such as Jean Dikoto Mandengue and Abou Bass (bass), Moustick Ambassa (bass and guitar), Fredo Tete and Jimmy Mvondo (brass)… Pictured here is a copy belonging to Radio Gilda, the free radio station that was the forerunner of Chérie FM, autographed by the author.
