À Paris – Mory Kanté, 1984

,

It’s been one bad news after another in this deadly year. Today we lose the voice of Mory Kanté. The Guinean griot, who has been ill for some time, has been caught up in the current crisis… This is his third album, À Paris, released in 1984, with contributions from Hilaire Penda and Jules Kamga, among others. After Coucourégné and Ndiarabi, this new album is already moving towards an Afro-Western fusion where kora and funk go hand in hand. À Paris includes the original version of Yé Ké Yé Ké, which would become a hit three years later, rearranged on the album Akwaba Beach.
