The success of Prince Nico Mbarga exploded in 1976 with his first album Sweet Mother, which sold several million copies (the exact number is not known…). Mbarga’s music blends the influences of his two countries of origin, Cameroon – through his father – and Nigeria – through his mother. With his Rocafill Jazz International, he delivered an irresistible highlife that would forever make his reputation, and which can be found on Family Movement released in 1978 on RAS (Rogers All Stars), the label that also produced Ikenga Super Stars, for example. It includes the politically correct « Le Père de Notre Pays », a tribute to President Ahidjo! Mbarga stopped his musical career at the end of the 80s to devote himself to his business, before tragically passing away in 1997.
