We’ve already mentioned bassist Aladji Touré’s label Touré Jim’s Records. It was responsible for the emergence of many makossa artists in the 80s. Such is the case with one of its great representatives, the late Guy Lobé. His second album, released in 1986, featured what remains undoubtedly one of his greatest hits, Mon Amie à Moi. It’s another classic, seasoned line-up that backs up Lobè’s makossa groove with Donald Wesley on drums, Aladji Touré himself on bass, Congolese Rigo Star on the highly recognizable guitars and the brass of Alex Perdigon and Kako Bessot. The backing vocals are once again provided by Sissy Dipoko and Marilou Séba. The 80s are not immune to the sometimes abusive use of synthesizers, whose sounds are now a little dated, but that’s the only criticism that could be made of René Michel’s keyboards. In short, a classic vintage, on which we also find the excellent Diboa La Bobé.
