Owende / Oppression – Akendengue, 1978

,

Owende, subtitled Oppression, in 1978, Akendengue‘s fourth album, would be the only one to be released on the Le Chant Du Monde label, in the Le Nouveau Chansonnier International series (Marti, Raimon, Colette Magny…). The album follows in the footsteps of Eseringila, whose spirit it carries on. Some of the musicians on the album are here again, such as percussionist Prosper N’kouri and Brazilian guitarist Francisco Timoteo. The tracks also feature the saxophone of ex-Magma Richard Raux, the rhythms of Mino Cinelu and the double bass of Didier Levallet. This highly acoustic opus draws on the traditional music of Central Africa, recounting everyday life and the tales that continue to be told orally, honouring the memory of the elders and heroes of freedom, with the afro-folk that is so dear to Akendengue, and a recognized and recognizable trademark.
