Founded in the early 60s by Loulou Pitou, Vonette Payet and Fatou Payet, the Groupe Folklorique de la Réunion set out to safeguard the island’s musical heritage. But it wasn’t until 1978 that they released their first album, Rougail Ségas. It features a selection of maloyas, segas and folk songs, including Jacqueline Farreyrol’s Mon Île. Under the determination of Bernadette Ladauge, the group is still active today.
