In 1980, a first afro-funk record under the name of Kossas‘s Players, and then five years later, this Makossa Hits with a slightly different team, but the same heart. The two albums are about as rare as each other. On this second album, Eyoum, Mambingo, Ndoumb’a Priso and Nthépé serve up five nervous makossas, drawing on the orchestrations that have made the genre so successful. Makossa Hits, the opening track on the B-side, is a medley of timeless hits. And then there’s the UFO, the last track on the album, the irresistible Take Your Way, four minutes of Afro-funk that’s as successful as it is unexpected! The album comes full circle.
