In 1983, Gabon created A.N.P.A.C., the National Agency for Artistic and Cultural Promotion, to promote local talent and contribute to the country’s cultural development. One of the agency’s first achievements was a series of three volumes entitled« l’ANPAC présente« , published in 1984. These albums feature a selection of Gabonese artists of all styles, highlighting their creativity and originality. Volume 1 opens with Hilarion Nguema performing his signature ‘Collé, Collé’, while the B-side opens with the voice of Angèle Assélé. There are also Marcel Djabioh, Jean-Boniface Assélé, Itsiembu Y Mbin and Jo-man Anguilet, Gabon’s political and cultural elite. Between Libreville-style soukous and more traditional rhythms, volume 1 offers a rich and varied panorama, a veritable Gabonese feat, caught between the two musical giants of the Congo to the south and Cameroon to the north!
