Today, a small combo of Monsieur Ray Lema‘s first two vinyls, released before Médecine, which we’ve already covered here, still on Celluloid. First an EP, Koteja (1982), followed by the album Kinshasa – Washington D.C. – Paris (1983), which retraces Lema’s journey to his arrival in France. Between afro-funk and rumba, always with a touch of electro, and many influences scattered here and there, as far afield as Brazil. Most of the tracks have become standards for Lema, who regularly remixes them in new versions, such as Yalelo, covered as a piano duet with Laurent de Wilde under the title Congo Rag in 2016 on the album Riddles. The EP tracks are included on the CD version of the album.
