monmon – Danyèl Waro, 2017

,

Danyèl Waro is undoubtedly one of today’s leading exponents of maloya, and has been at the forefront of a revival of traditional Réunionese music since the 1970s. In 2017, among a rich discography, he published monmon, an ode to mothers and their importance in society – the potomitan, as we would say in the West Indies. The album also pays tribute to Brassens, one of his greatest sources of inspiration since his teens, with a cover of La Mauvaise Réputation.
