In 1980, Bébé Manga became internationally famous with her cover version under the name « Amio » of an Ebanda Manfred track, Amie, released almost twenty years earlier. The album Ami-Oyomiya alternated between makossa, ballads and afro-funk, but it was really for her hit that Bébé Manga would make her mark for the rest of her career. The song itself was regularly covered by many artists, including Manu Dibango, Papa Wemba, Angélique Kidjo and even the Bisso Na Bisso collective.
